We carry out projects in 39 countries and campaigns for fairer cooperation with developing countries.Welthungerhilfe (German Agro Action) PVO 21/2003 is leading a consortium of NGOs to support the Zimbabwe Ministry of Agriculture’s Departments of Research, Education and Extension in its Agriculture Knowledge and Innovations System Project funded by the EU under the Zimbabwe Agricultural Growth Programme.

Supports ward level implementation of livestock extension/development and market linkages, gender and environment mainstreaming, pluralistic extension services and Savings Groups under the beef development project. Work closely with the field officers, specialists and key stakeholders along the beef value chain including associations, unions and LMAC Responsible for implementation of all project components at ward level.
Major Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Implement project activities; including farmer field schools, demonstration sites, Savings Groups, market linkages and gender and environment mainstreaming; Facilitate capacity building of agricultural extension staff, improving agricultural extension services for small holder farmers; Support Farmer Field Schools and Lead Farmer groups to enhance livestock productivity using good agricultural practices; Provide regular support and monitoring of demonstration sites at ward level; Monitor livestock performance in target district/wards; Produce regular and timely consolidated progress reports; Mobilize and registration of farmers into farmer groups and training of these groups with the assistance of public and private extension staff; Identify and document case studies, Most Significant Change Stories; Identifying and analysing key value chains which maximize benefits for small scale farmers; Undertake market surveys; Identify smallholder farmers with potential that require capacity building; Identify local market opportunities for smallholders and other valuable service provider’s e.g. transporters, payment solutions; Collect livestock marketing data from local markets; Provide training of trainers, farmers in market-based livestock rearing.

Required Skills and Experience

Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Marketing or any other related field; Minimum of 4 years professional experience in a similar position; Ability to develop training material and excellent facilitation skills; Ability to work independently and under pressure; Effective communication skills and ability to network and establish collaboration with different partners and agencies; Very good command of written and spoken English; Good working knowledge of MS Office; Clean class 4 driver’s licence
